  2. French Open (May-June): Played in Paris, this is the only Grand Slam played on clay courts.
  3. Wimbledon (June-July): Played in London, this is the oldest tennis tournament in the world (1877) and is played on grass courts.

The All England Lawn Tennis Club was founded in 1868 (the oldest club in the sport), but it wasn’t always about tennis! It actually started as a croquet club, called the All England Croquet Club.

Lawn tennis was a relatively new sport at the time, having been patented in 1874. It wasn’t long before the club added lawn tennis to its activities, and in 1877, they held the first Wimbledon Championship.
